Red Cross Week
Each May the Red Cross holds an annual, week-long fundraising extravaganza and this is my way of contributing. Red Cross week in 2013 is from 5-11 May. Read more about Red Cross Week here.
About the British Red Cross
The British Red Cross is a volunteer-led, humanitarian organisation that does fantastic work, helping people in crisis in Britain and around the world. They help people in crisis, whoever and wherever they are and enable vulnerable people at home and overseas to prepare for and respond to emergencies in their own communities. And when the crisis is over, they help people recover and move on with their lives.
The International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement started in 1863, inspired by a Swiss businessman, Henry Dunant. Read more about the history of the Red Cross here.
Today the BRC works all over the UK, delivering first aid skills training, responding to disasters, offering social care and support to vulnerable people, working through their global network to put families that are separated by war or disaster back in touch, and providing practical and emotional support to vulnerable refugees and asylum seekers. They also help communities to prepare for disasters, protect people in armed conflicts and deliver humanitarian education in schools.
